Flinders Rangers - Wilpena Pound painting trip

I recently spent five fabulous nights at Wilpena Pound with 7 other enthusiastic artists. What an inspiring place this was. Each day we would pack up our drawing and painting materials and drive through the spectacular scenery brilliantly coloured and patterned with spinifex and native pine trees on orange, mauve and purple soils with the craggy ranges as a back drop.  Kangaroos and emus roamed the landscape and wedge tail eagles soared over head. Bird song surrounded us as we attempted to depict the essence of this ancient country.

...and so I have returned to another beautiful place, Tahbilk...inspired with a fresh new way of looking...

Porcelain bowls for Tahbilk cafe

I have been having a lot of fun making and firing these little porcelain pinch pots for Tahbilk cafe. New chef Ash Thorpe requested some handmade individual bowls to use as containers for olives, dips etc.

Check them out at the cafe. I am more than happy to take orders if you would like some at your place.

Embossed into the environment; this is the overwhelming feeling when pondering existence. Just as a flower - once perfect - slowly shrivels and finds its way back into the earth only to re-emerge anew; the paintings in this exhibition began as photographs of known things in the environment - a vase of flowers, an old bridge, the landscape after Black Saturday - and they have been transformed into new states of being. They are the same, and yet they are not the same at all.

Mural at Buckley Park, Nagambie

The huge mural at Buckley Park in Nagambie is finally taking shape.  It has taken most of this year to produce the handmade wobbly ceramic leaves with the help of the children at both the primary school and St Joseph’s plus the residents at the hospice in town.  What fun we have had trying to produce “flat” tiles only to find that the clay has a mind of it own.

After waiting for the wonderful wet winter to subside we began the job of  gridding up the 18 x 2 metre wal l.   What a joy it has been adhereing the tiles and rocks then applying paint  with the help of a few enthusiastic creative friends and a dozen or so children.

The colourful wall is visable from across the lake so it’s difficult to ignore and so far all reports have been very positive. So…if you happen to be in this patch of paradise called Nagambie, stop at the lake, take a walk along the fabulous new boardwalk that follows the waters edge, breathe in the wonderful fresh air and have a peek at our new piece of art work in town.
